Civil War Encampment at the Old Stone Fort on September 10th and 11th 2016

Members of the re-created Company C, 125th New York State Volunteer Infantry (Rensselaer County Regiment) will be setting up a camp of instruction on the grounds of the Old Stone Fort on the weekend of September 10th and 11th. The re-enactors will be camping on an authentic “company street” while demonstrating camp life, both military and civilian, to the public.

There will be drilling, firing, and skirmishing demonstrations throughout the day. Parents and children alike can take part in a wooden rifle drill to feel what it was like for a real Union soldier recruit in 1862! Visitors can listen to a Civil War Surgeon as he explains nineteenth century medical techniques, look at an array of historical collections, or learn how the soldiers prepared meals over an open fire. The camp and tents will be open to exploration as well and soldiers will explain the contents of their packs and haversacks.

Please join us at the Old Stone Fort on 09/10 & 09/11/2016 for this fun and exciting Civil War Encampment weekend! The museum will open on Saturday, 09/10 at 10AM and close at 5PM keeping with normal business hours and the Civil War demonstrations will begin with a Company drill at 11AM on Saturday. The museum opens on Sunday, 9/11/2016 at noon and the Civil War demonstrations will begin at that time. We look forward to seeing you here at the Old Stone Fort!
